Portland Meadows first Tuesday of racing is a success

Portland Meadows elected to switch their mid-week racing cards from Wednesdays to Tuesdays and after one race day, the move is a success. The track handled $686,155 on the 10 race card which was the highest all-sources handle of the meet thus far through twelve days or racing.

Beem on the Backside 11/14/2014

Well, Snowpacolypse, SnowVember, SnowMageddon, whatever you want to call it, didn’t show up this week. Forecasters had called for 4 to 6 inches of snow in the Portland area on Thursday and instead we got none. So instead of a warm morning nestled in bed watching Sportscenter, I trudged my way through hardly any traffic and no ice on the roads to the backstretch.

The PIck 5 on Wednesday will cover races 6 through 10 and is a $0.20 base wager with just a 15% takeout rate.

Beem on the Backside 11/7/14

It was a very pleasant and typically Portland fall morning today on the Portland Meadows backside. Cloudy skies and not too cold. I waltzed in just after 7am and all the action appeared to be going on down at the track or by the gate to get on the track. I popped into Cindie’s Backside Café and nobody was in there so I headed up to the first barn I saw out the door, that of trainer Sam Dronen.

Hastings Shippers dominate Portland Meadows Sunday Stakes

Trainer Sylvea Gregory arrived at Portland Meadows yesterday with two horses in tow and plans on taking some big money back to her native Vancouver, British Columbia. The plan worked to perfection as her two year old Oh Derek and her four year old filly Lady Henrietta each took home top honors in their respective $20,000 stakes races.

Pick 5 carryover of $2,090 for Sunday November 2nd

Nobody had 5 out of 5 in the Wednesday Pick 5 on October 29th so there will be a $2,090 carryover into the Sunday November 2nd card.  The Pick 5 at Portland Meadows is a $0.20 wager with just a 15% takeout rate.  It covers races 6 through 10 on Sunday November 2nd.
