Chicks R Gone heads fastest qualifiers for the Baxter Andruss Futurity

Chicks R Gone won the last of four trials on Sunday at Portland Meadows and put up the fastest 400 yard qualifying time of 20.523 seconds for the $33,900 Baxter Andruss Futurity Finals that will be run on Sunday December 14th.

Well I got a late start this morning. The combination of a belly full of turkey last night and the drive back to Portland from Seattle, I didn’t roll to the barn area until about 8:40 or so. Which as it turns out was perfect timing as they had just started the break time so I could catch a lot of people in the kitchen area!

Portland Meadows elected to switch their mid-week racing cards from Wednesdays to Tuesdays and after one race day, the move is a success. The track handled $686,155 on the 10 race card which was the highest all-sources handle of the meet thus far through twelve days or racing.

Well, Snowpacolypse, SnowVember, SnowMageddon, whatever you want to call it, didn’t show up this week. Forecasters had called for 4 to 6 inches of snow in the Portland area on Thursday and instead we got none. So instead of a warm morning nestled in bed watching Sportscenter, I trudged my way through hardly any traffic and no ice on the roads to the backstretch.
