Smart as Jim looks for more Oregon Championship Day success

Smart as Jim will be making his fourth Oregon Championship Day start this Sunday when he competes in the $7,500 Oregon Bred Fall Starter Handicap on Sunday November 17th. Smart as Jim won the race last year and has won eleven of his thirty-five career starts. The fact that he’s still alive to race is not something his owner and trainer Michael “Bubba” Bullene ever takes for granted.

Swiss Exploit and Mamoonya both take one more step towards the OHBPA Route Claiming Series Final

Swiss Exploit wasn’t running all that well for most of the early part of this season. But it seems when the Oregon HBPA Route Claiming Series gets going, so does he, as he won his second straight race, winning his division of Leg 2 of the Series on Wednesday. Swiss Exploit won the Inaugural Oregon HBPA Route Claiming Series back in March of 2012.

Jack The Pirate a gamble his connections hope will keep paying off

Jack The Pirate will be a big favorite when he takes the track on Sunday November 17th in the $15,000 Oregon His Stakes at Portland Meadows as part of Oregon Championship Day. But his connections have been planning on him winning this race since July. It’s all part of a three race plan that owner/breeder Robert Clary and trainer Blaine Wright had when they plunked down $15,000 to claim Jack The Pirate on July 27th at Emerald Downs.

Entries for Oregon Championship Day are out

Entries were released on Tuesday for Oregon Championship Day, one of the biggest days of the season at Portland Meadows that will take place on November 17th. The day celebrates the Oregon-bred as all ten races are restricted to Oregon-bred runners only. There are four $15,000 stakes events for Thoroughbreds as well as the $17,000 added Baxter Andruss Futurity for the Quarter Horses.

Maddie's Gold could be the real deal on Oregon Championship

From inside of his stall, two year-old Maddie’s Gold doesn’t look all that impressive. The son of Harbor the Gold has a huge white nose that he sticks out at visitors, while his next door neighbor, stakes winner Midda’s Gold Touch watches the young horse inquisitively.

Calypsonoted ready to go for Oregon Championship Day

Patience can be a tough thing in horse racing. Whether it’s a rider waiting to make his move, or a bettor waiting for the right race to play, having patience can often pay off. For trainer Eric Jensen, his three year-old star filly Calypsonoted has tested his patience. For last year’s top two year-old at Portland Meadows, finding a race for her age level and ability has been a difficult proposition.

Pick 4 Carryover for Wednesday November 13th

The Pick 4 proved very elusive on Sunday, as nobody could piece together all four winners.  So a carryover of $3,714 will go into the Wednesday Pick 4 sequence, which covers races 7 through 10.  Post time for the 7th race is 2:52pm (Pacific).

The Pick 4 will feature both divisions of Leg 2 of the OHBPA Route Claiming Series, which will be run as races 9 and 10.

Portland Meadows' Pick 4 is a $1 base wager and features a low takeout rate of 14%.
