UPDATE--Mark Anderson wins Manitoba Lotteries Derby---Local Jockeys ride in the $75,000 Manitoba Lotteries Derby on Monday August 1st at Assiniboia Downs

UPDATE 8/1/11--Jockey Mark Anderson and Hammers Bullet sat just off the pace to win the $75,000 Manitoba Lotteries Derby on Monday at Assiniboia Downs, the track's premier race.  Sent off at odds of 5/1, Anderson and Hammers Bullet sat in second while long shot Big Blue Caboose set the early fractions.  As the field neared the top of the stretch, Anderson gave his horse his cue and they got to the lead into the stretch, but it wasn't so easy from there.

Noosa Beach takes the Mt. Rainier Handicap at Emerald Downs, preps for the Longacres Mile on Sunday August 21st

Noosa Beach etched his name into the record books Sunday at Emerald Downs with a hard-earned half-length victory over Winning Machine in the $50,000 Mt. Rainier Handicap.

Carrying a record 126 lbs, the 5-year-old Washington-bred ran one mile and one-sixteenth in 1:41.13 on a fast track and paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10. Gallyn Mitchell had riding honors for trainer Doris Harwood and owner Jeff Harwood of Kent, Wash.

Oregon Championship Day rescheduled for Sunday December 11, 2011

Oregon Championship Day 2011 has been rescheduled for Sunday December 11th.  Originally scheduled for Sunday December 4th, 2011, the event has been pushed back one week to Sunday December 11th, 2011.  Post time will still be the traditional 12:00pm PST first post.   There will now be no live racing on Sunday December 4th.

With the changing of the date of Oregon Championship Day, Live racing will be run on Tuesday December 6th, however Tuesday December 13th will now be a dark day. 

Portland Meadows releases Live Racing schedule for 2011-2012 (UPDATED)

Portland Meadows, Oregon’s largest horse racing track has released its 2011-2012 Live Racing schedule.  Live Racing will follow a similar format kicking off with Opening Day on Monday October 17, 2011 racing until Closing Day on Wednesday March 14, 2012. 

Live Racing will be conducted on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday schedule during October, November and December, and will switch to just Mondays and Wednesdays in January, February and March.  There will be 55 total days of racing during the 2011-2012 meeting.

The Stronach Group acquires MI Developments' Racing and Gaming Assets

The Stronach Group today announced that it has acquired the racing and gaming assets formerly held by MI Developments Inc. (MID) (NYSE: MIM) as part of a previously announced reorganization proposal approved by MID shareholders on March 29, 2011.
