McFadden series named in honor of "the father of Oregon Horse Racing"

The name McFadden and Oregon horse racing go back a long way, in fact they go back to times before there was horse racing in the state.  Pari-mutuel wagering made its way to Oregon because of Julian McFadden, who wrote and passed the bill in 1933 in his first year as a legislator in Oregon, which allowed pari-mutuel wagering to come to Oregon.  The sport has grown over the decades in this state, but the story of the man with whom Portland Meadows pays tribute to with the McFadden Memorial Spring Claiming Series is an interesting one.

McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Finals, Contender Profiles

The McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Finals are coming up on Wednesday December 7th and offers up a $26,900 purse.   Both of the first two legs have not only produced some exciting racing, but four separate winners in the four divisions, and tons of action at the claiming box.  The McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Finals will be race 6 on Wednesday December 7th, and post time is 2:20pm pacific.  Here is a profile of the contenders in the Finals

ShowVivor down to the Final Four players

Portland Meadows Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest will go into its seventh week with just four players remaining still eligible to take home the title.   The remaining four players span the corners of the United States, making this truly a national final four in the contest.  There is “TheJayman474” from Port Crayne, New York who has picked 9 winners during the first 18 days of the contest, the most of any of the final four.  But the name of the game, is just stay alive, just hit the board and move onto the next day.

Only 6 players remain in Portland Meadows ShowVivor

Portland Meadows’ Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest is down to six final players as the contest enters its sixth week.  Heading the group is ‘delrogue’ who is a local player who thus far has picked 8 winners, 5 runner ups, and 2 third place finishers.  The opposite coast is represented by ‘TheJayman474’ who is a New York player who has selected 8 winners, 3 seconds and 4 thirds.

Chicks Snowbound takes the Portland Meadows Fall Derby

The race was billed as a match up between the two favorites Danner and EZ Gamer, but it was Chicks Snowbound who beat them both as she scored the biggest win of her career, taking the $13,900 Portland Meadows Fall Derby on Tuesday.  Sent off as the 7/2 third choice in the wagering, Chicks Snowbound broke a bit behind both Danner and EZ Gamer who were coming over from the outside, but Jorge Rosales and Chicks Snowbound rallied in the middle stages of the race, and edged clear late to a half length victory in the end.
