My Mounts is a daily feature where Track Announcer Jason Beem talks with a jockey to get their thoughts on the horses they will be riding for a particular live race day. Today our guest is jockey Anne Sanguinetti, who is enjoying a very strong meet here this season, currently second in the standings. Anne rode here back in 2005 and 2006 and took the Portland Mile with Charlie’s Pride. She spent the last years travelling and riding in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and California.
My Mounts is a daily feature where Track Announcer Jason Beem talks with a jockey to get their thoughts on the horses they will be riding for a particular live race day. For Sunday we’ve been joined by jockey Mark Anderson. Mark has been coming to Portland Meadows for the last four years and has been a regular in the top five of the standings ever since. He’s an avid hard rock fan and Alice in Chains worshipper, and loves the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Torres and Velasquez take home Stanford’s Jockey and Trainer of the Week awards
Jockey Luis Torres continued his career season at Portland Meadows as he added six more wins to bring his total to 40 winners through just seventeen days of racing. Torres had those six wins from just seventeen mounts, good for a 35% winning percentage, highest among riders with more than five mounts on the week. This is Luis’ second time this season taking home the Stanford’s Jockey of the Week award.
Portland Meadows and local artist Wendy R. Swartz have teamed up to provide the winner of the Portland Mile a special memento of the victory.
New in 2012, Portland Meadows has commissioned Ms. Swartz to create one of her unique and beautiful horse paintings on wood. The Portland Mile will be run on Labor Day, Monday September 3, 2012 and Ms. Swartz will be onsite to meet the winning connections. This will begin the process that will culminate with a personal memento for the owners of Portland Meadows’ signature race that will last a lifetime.
