Hannibal Lector sets a new 220 yard track record

Hannibal Lector broke beautifully under jockey Luis Torres and went on to an easy win in Saturday’s second race. Carded at the rare 220 yard distance, the 10 year old gelding established a new track record for the distance, completing the course in 12.12 seconds, besting the 59 year old record set by Gold Bar 49 back on July 25, 1959, when he ran the course in 12.20.

Calypsonoted takes on the boys in the $25,000 Don Jackson Futurity

Calypsonoted will take her talents against male rivals on Sunday as she takes on nine other runners in the $25,000 Don Jackson Futurity on Oregon Championship Day presented by Spirit Mountain Casino. A perfect two for two in her young career, Calypsonoted was pointing towards the Oregon Debutante, but when that race didn’t fill on entry day, owner/trainer/breeder Eric Jensen wasn’t left with many choices.

Ten runners set to go in the $25,000 Don Jackson Futurity on Oregon Championship Day presented by Spirit Mountain Casino

Final entries were taken on Thursday for Oregon Championship Day presented by Spirit Mountain Casino at Portland Meadows, with ten runners entered into the $25,000 feature event, the Don Jackson Futurity for two year olds. Bill Wineberg Stakes winner Cantchaco as well as Janet Wineberg Stakes winner Calypsonoted lead a cast of well-established runners in the Don Jackson. Both are undefeated however both are trying a two turn race for the first time, as the Don Jackson Futurity is a one mile race.

Leg 2 of the Route Claiming Series on Saturday afternoon

Nineteen runners have been entered in two divisions of Leg 2 of the O.H.B.P.A. Route Claiming Series on Saturday November 17th. Carded as races five and seven on the nine race program, these horses are competing to accrue points to earn one of the coveted twelve spots in the $20,000 Final that will be run on closing day, Sunday December 9th. Here is the point system used in Leg’s 1 and 2, with the top twelve point earners getting a spot in the Final.

Racing Fan adds Portland Meadows to his list of tracks visited

Dale Hargrave added Portland Meadows to his growing list of tracks he’s visited on Wednesday. The 64 year-old former Social Studies teacher from Virginia has turned his passion for racing into a long and fun journey. Portland Meadows is the 40th track Hargrave has visited since he started following racing back in 1964.
