Starting February 1, 2012, Portland Meadows will kick off the 2012 Route Claiming Series for distance runners.  The Route Claiming Series is a three leg event, with a final featuring a $25,000 purse on Closing Day, Wednesday March 14th.   In order to qualify for the finals, horses must compete in both the first and second legs with the top 12 point earners from the first two legs qualifying for the finals.

Portland Meadows received Oregon Racing Commission approval of their application for the 2012-13 license that will usher in a new era at Portland Meadows.  Live Racing will commence on Sunday July 15, 2012 and will continue until closing day on Saturday December 8, 2012.  Portland Meadows has traditionally run from early October to March or April, so the new license sees a dramatic shift in scheduling that will also include weekend and night racing every week.

After a series of long shots in the Monday Pick 4 sequence, there is a $16,750 carryover into the Tuesday sequence which covers races 6 through 9 on the Tuesday December 20th program.  Post time for the 6th race is at 2:34pm pacific time.  

Back on November 22nd, Portland Meadows had a $8,962 carryover into the Tuesday card, and over $60,000 was bet into the pool, so another nice pool is to be expected on Tuesday December 20th.
