Pick 5 carryover for Sunday December 1st

Nobody had the Pick 5 on Wednesday afternoon so there will be a carryover into Sunday's card of $5,089.02

The Pick 5 at Portland Meadows is a $0.25 wager and has a low 15% takeout rate.  It's always conducted on races 5 through 9 and post time Sunday for the 5th race is 1:50pm (Pacific).  

Pick 4 Carryover for Wednesday November 27th

With Black Friday shopping just around the corner, Portland Meadows players can pick up some extra dough on Wednesday November 27th as there will be a Pick 4 carryover of $2,989.84

The Pick 4 features a 14% takeout rate and will cover races 6 through 9 on Wednesday and post time for the sixth race is 2:23pm (Pacific).  

McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Final draws a full field of twelve

A full field of twelve will go six furlongs on Wednesday in the $15,000 McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Final at Portland Meadows. These horses competed in two preliminary legs and had to earn points to secure a spot in the Final which features a $4,000 claiming tag. There were six total divisions run in Legs 1 and 2 and no horse won more than a single race, so the Final is wide open.

Chelsea's Flame goes all the way to win the $15,000 City of Roses Filly and Mare Sprint Claiming Series Final

Chelsea’s Flame went right to the front and never looked back as she took home the top honors in the $15,000 Final of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Route Claiming Series at Portland Meadows on Wednesday. Sent off at odds of 7/1, Chelsea’s Flame ($17.00) went right to the front and didn’t get pushed at all early on, which pleased jockey Kain De la Cruz.

Full field of twelve to go in the $15,000 City of Roses Sprint Claiming Series Final on Wednesday 11/20

Twelve fillies and mares have battled their way through the first two legs of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Sprint Claiming Series and will now look to complete the journey on Wednesday November 20th, as the $15,000 Final will be contested at six furlongs at Portland Meadows with a $4,000 claiming tag. The horses have been accruing points in the first two legs based on their finishing position and now they’ll get a chance to run for the $15,000 purse, which is $9,000 more than what a traditional open $4,000 claimer would be at Portland Meadows.

Sunday Football Challenge - Big Winners!

On Sunday November 17, 2013 the Sunday Football Challenge was finally won!  After going unclaimed for many weeks, the prize pool ballooned to $2,800 and there were 16 REWARDS members that had all seven football games and horse races correct.  They share in the prize pool and each get $175.

Kentucky Derby winner Grindstone's babies make their Oregon Championship debuts on Sunday

Morning at Oakhurst Thoroughbreds in Newberg, Oregon isn’t very quiet. Walking into the barn area, you’re greeted by four dogs barking, dozens of chickens squaking about and horses in their stalls lining the rows of the barn. In the office, Dr. Jack Root goes over some x-rays with his assistant before taking me into the stud barn to meet the big horse, Grindstone.

Smart as Jim looks for more Oregon Championship Day success

Smart as Jim will be making his fourth Oregon Championship Day start this Sunday when he competes in the $7,500 Oregon Bred Fall Starter Handicap on Sunday November 17th. Smart as Jim won the race last year and has won eleven of his thirty-five career starts. The fact that he’s still alive to race is not something his owner and trainer Michael “Bubba” Bullene ever takes for granted.
