Wild N Sexy wins the Directors Handicap; Blue Society sets new track record
Wild N Sexy won her second race of the meet on Sunday, but this one was the big one, as she dominated the $11,250 Directors Handicap at Portland Meadows. Sent off as the 9/2 second choice in a wide open field of ten, Wild N Sexy and the red-hot Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa broke sharply from their number seven post position and never looked back, as they opened up a length at the midpoint of the race and kept that advantage all the way to the wire, winning by a length over Eyes Movin and Bedas Jumpin Okie who ran second and third. Wild N Sexy is owned and trained by Juan Leon and completed the 350 yards in a time of 18.07 seconds.
One race before the Directors Handicap, it was Blue Society who broke a 10 year old track record at the 870 yard distance. Blue Society and Kain De La Cruz blasted right out to the front and poured it on down the lane to win by four and three quarter lengths. When the timer stopped, it read 45.348 seconds, besting Beluga Star’s mark set on 4/27/2003 of 45.420 seconds. Blue Society is owned by Riverview Farm Inc. and trained by Rod Hyde.
News and Notes…..Portland Meadows continued to show strong increases at the betting windows as a large on-track crowd wagered $72,240 on the eight race card. That was up 181% over the same Sunday last season. Out of state wagering was $249,724, up 81.99% over last year’s same day total……Kain De La Cruz continued his sharp riding as he rode three winners on the day, as did Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa.
