Wild Beach Takes Home the Far West Futurity Finals
Wild Beach and jockey Troy Stillwell took command in the middle stages of the $24,700 Far West Futurity Finals and drew away late to win by a length in the end. Sent off as the 2/1 second choice, Wild Beach ($6.40) and Stillwell broke very cleanly and found themselves in front at the eighth pole. Wild Beach, who has a tendency to drift out slightly in her races was able to maintain a straighter course today for the win, her fourth from just six career starts.
“She got a little bump as she skipped out of the gates,” said Stillwell. “She just took off about 30 yards out and just accelerated. She felt better warming up today than she did in the trials and was just on her game.”
Wild Beach completed the 350 yards in 18.11 seconds and picked up $9,880 for owner/trainer Juan Leon. Favored Jess Be Hawkin finished up in second while Sneakin Bye rounded out the top three.
