Twenty-two entered in 1st Leg of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Sprint Claiming Series

Twenty-two runners have entered two divisions of the 1st Leg of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Sprint Claiming Series. Carded as races 5 and 7 on the Wednesday October 9th program, both divisions will feature eleven runners competing at the five-furlong distance. Both races will feature a purse of $5,800 and all runners are in for a claiming price of $2,500. Horses will compete and earn points in the 1st Leg on Wednesday as well as the 2nd Leg which will be run on October 30th in order to be eligible for the $15,000 Final that will be run on November 20th. The 2nd Leg is a $3,200 claimer at five and one half furlongs while the Final is a $4,000 event at six furlongs.

Here is the point system for the first two legs of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Claiming Series. The top 12 point earners from the first two legs will be eligible for the Final, and horses must compete in both the first two legs to run in the Final.

1st Place—5 points
2nd Place—4 points
3rd Place—3 points
4th Place—2 points

5th Place—1 point

The fifth race on Wednesday is the first of two divisions. Impulzive Kate was claimed last time for $4,000 and has been sharp so far this season at Portland Meadows, with two wins and a second in five starts this season. Joe Crispin takes over the ride for new trainer Linda Bartels Northam. Controllable Impulse was a very game winner in her Portland Meadows debut last month and will take plenty of action at the windows, and possibly the claim box for trainer Jonathan Nance. Kilauea and Tesio’s Theory both ship down from Emerald Downs near Seattle and will be making their Portland Meadows debuts on Wednesday.

The seventh race on Wednesday is the second division and also drew eleven runners including All The Rage. All The Rage comes down from Emerald for the always dangerous Charles Essex barn and Javier Matias will ride. All the Rage has run at Portland Meadows before, with two wins and a third from three career starts. Gotaminute will break just to the inside of All the Rage and has won two straight, but both of them were against conditioned $2,500 claimers.

Both races are part of Portland Meadows $0.25 Pick 5 sequence that covers races 5 through 9 and offers a low 15% takeout rate. First post at Portland Meadows is 12pm (Pacific) and the 5th race is slated for post at 1:48pm (Pacific).
