Nominations have been released for the 49th running of the $35,000 Portland Mile. Twenty horses nominated for the event, which is the Signature Race annually at Portland Meadows.
“The list of nominations this year is very impressive,” said Director of Racing Jerry Kohls. “I can’t recall in recent history such a talented group of nominees for this race.”
Oregon H.B.P.A. Sprint stakes winner Dare Me Devil leads the local contingent of nominees, but there are several horses nominated who would be shipping in from out of town.

Rocky’s Quest is another recent Emerald Downs winner who is a mile specialist, as he’s 5 for 10 in his career at the distance.
Hastings Race Course in Vancouver, BC could be well represented in the Portland Mile as numerous horses north of the border have been nominated. Liberty Cap has two straight big allowance wins for owners Mark DeDomenico and North American Thoroughbred Horse Company. Aaron Gryder, 2009 Dubai World Cup winning jockey has been on board for both of those last two wins. Crew Leader was just beaten by a head by Liberty Cap in their last race and he’s nominated for the Portland Mile as well.
