Torres and Velasquez take home Stanford’s Jockey and Trainer of the Week awards

Jockey Luis Torres continued his career season at Portland Meadows as he added six more wins to bring his total to 40 winners through just seventeen days of racing. Torres had those six wins from just seventeen mounts, good for a 35% winning percentage, highest among riders with more than five mounts on the week. This is Luis’ second time this season taking home the Stanford’s Jockey of the Week award.

Trainer Jesse Velasquez rang up a perfect 3 for 3 week last week, winning with the trio of horses he sent out to the track. The most impressive of his winners could have been the 10 year old veteran D Devil who scored in his division of Leg 1 of the McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series last Wednesday night. This is Jesse’s first time this season being named Stanford’s Trainer of the Week.

For their efforts, both Luis Torres and Jesse Velasquez will receive a $50 gift certificate to Stanford’s Restaurant in Jantzen Beach, which is located just one mile north of the track at exit 308 of Interstate 5.
