Swiss Exploit and Mamoonya both take one more step towards the OHBPA Route Claiming Series Final

Swiss Exploit wasn’t running all that well for most of the early part of this season. But it seems when the Oregon HBPA Route Claiming Series gets going, so does he, as he won his second straight race, winning his division of Leg 2 of the Series on Wednesday. Swiss Exploit won the Inaugural Oregon HBPA Route Claiming Series back in March of 2012.

Sent off as the 2/1 second choice in a field of six, Swiss Exploit went right to the front under jockey Javier Matias and was able to settle into an easy beat down the backstretch in the nine furlong event. Matias got some token pressure from Red Sea going to the final turn, but he let it out a notch into the stretch and opened up two lengths. Meanwhile It’s Our Pleasure and Windshadows both started to roll from the back. Swiss Exploit started to shorten stride just a touch late, but he was able to hold on to win by a head. It’s Our Pleasure finished up in second while Windshadows ran third. Wandering Dreamer was fourth and Red Sea finished fifth, both picking up points for the $15,000 Series Final, which will be run at a mile and a quarter on December 4th.  Dave Runyon trained Swiss Exploit to the win.

Swiss Exploit was claimed out of the race and will go to the barn of trainer Jonathan Nance for the Final.

In the second division it was Mamoonya who was also a repeat winner, as he and Leonel Camacho-Flores scored the victory. Mamoonya ($3.40) was third early on as Tenatious Spirit went out and set the early fractions. Tenatious Spirit led all the way until the top of the stretch, when Mamoonya went inside and Shakereadynroll went to the outside. Mamoonya was able to keep Shakereadynroll at bay though and won by a long neck. Tenatious Spirit stayed on for third while Adam N Ryan ran fourth and Dee Rain got fifth.  Jackie Smith trained Mamoonya to the win.

Mamoonya was claimed out of the second division in a 12 way shake, going to the barn of trainer Gary Lonctot.

The top twelve point earners from the first two legs will be eligible for the $15,000 Final on December 4th which will be a $4,000 claiming event at a mile and a quarter.
