Salon Blonde and Impulzive Kate each score a win in Leg 1 of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Spring Claiming Series

Salon Blonde might have jumped right to the head of the class on Wednesday as she scored impressively to win her division of the 1st Leg of the City of Roses Filly and Mare Sprint Claiming Series at Portland Meadows. Salon Blonde ($7.20) battled with Charging City early on and as they ran into the far turn, she disposed of that rival. Salon Blonde opened up turning for home and won with ease by two and three quarter lengths. Favored All The Rage finally broke out of the field to run on for the second spot while Drawing Breath finished third. Scent of Chrism was fourth with Charging City fifth. Salon Blonde stopped the clock in 59.47 for the five furlongs.

Impulzive Kate ($5.20) won the first division as she held off a late charge from 38/1 long shot Spool Girl to win by a nose. Impulsive Kate was sent to post as the 8/5 second choice in the field of eleven and blasted right out to the front in what was a big pace battle early on. Impulzive Kate and Joe Crispin took off for home as Spool Girl loomed up to be the only challenger, but Impulzive Kate dug in and got the win. Spool Girl was second and was three and a half lengths ahead of Carlotta Del Sol who rallied for third. Wild Chica and Controlableimpulse ran fourth and fifth, both picking up points towards the $15,000 Final on November 20th. Impulzive Kate stopped the clock in 1:00.07 seconds for the five furlongs.
