Portland Meadows' Ultimate ShowVivor Contest comes to an end, Bernard Aldrich wins $5,000
After outlasting 1891 competitors, Bernard Aldrich was looking to keep his streak going, but on the 29th day of the Portland Meadows' Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest, Bernard finally missed. Most ShowVivor games end when the last player is left, which for Bernard was three weeks ago, when he became the last man standing. However the Portland Meadows' Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest featured a caveat, if Bernard could continue to pick horses that hit the board until the end of the season, he’d pick up another $5,000 in cold hard cash, making his total haul $10,000.
Aldrich’s selection on Tuesday December 27th was He’s a Goblin who was coming off a powerful win in the Lethal Grande Oregon Sprint Championship back on December 11th. He’s a Goblin is a noted speed horse and when the gates popped open, he got away a couple strides behind. He rushed up into contention but as the field turned for home, it was clear that he didn’t have the steam left down the stretch and he faded to finish fifth.
So after picking 10 winners, 9 runner ups, and 9 third place finishes, Aldrich’s masterful performance in ShowVivor came to an end. Aldrich is a 63 year old resident of Owensboro, Kentucky and makes his occupation as a long haul truck driver. A family man, Aldrich spoke after finding out he was the last man standing about how great winning the contest and its financial benefit would be.
“I have two daughters in college, so I’m not going to lie and say $5,000 doesn’t help pay for that,” said Aldrich.
