Portland Meadows will kick off our 65th season of live racing on Monday October 17th, 2011 and there is lots to be excited about, including the new $25,000 Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest.   Beginning on Monday October 24th, racing fans will go to the ShowVivor page at www.portlandmeadows.com and select their horse for that day’s races.  If your horse finishes in the top three spots, then you move on to the next day.  It’s free to play and the rules and regulations can be found at www.portlandmeadows.com.

Portland Meadows will also feature a new first post time of 12:00pm (Pacific) this season.  The 55 day live racing schedule will consist of racing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays starting on October 17th through December 2011.  Live racing will continue into 2012 with Monday and Wednesday race days through Closing Day on Wednesday March 14th.   This year’s average daily purses are scheduled to be at about $42,350. 

Once again the headlining day of the meeting will be Oregon Championship Day which will be run on a special Sunday of live racing on December 11th.   Oregon Championship Day will feature five stakes races all for the top Oregon-bred runners on the grounds. 

Also new this season is the McFadden Memorial Claiming Series which begins on November 2nd, and culminates with a $28,000 estimated final on December 7th.  Many horsemen will be gearing up for this event that starts with a $2,500 five furlong claiming race on November 2nd.  The series then moves on to a $4,000 claiming race at five and one half furlongs on November 16th.   The horses with the most points earned in those first two races will run in the $28,000 estimated final on December 7th, which is a six furlong race.

Back for its third season this year is The Winning Ticket radio show on 750AM The Game.  Track announcer Jason Beem will host the 30 minute show that will include Portland Meadows news, highlights, interviews with trainers, jockeys and handicappers and much more.   Fans can stream the show live at www.750thegame.com

There is also a brand new www.portlandmeadows.com.  The website home for Portland Meadows has been updated with a sleek new look, featuring  biographies of all the regular Portland Meadows jockeys and trainers so fans can learn all about the people who compete at Portland Meadows.
