The featured event on Opening Day is a $10,000 Overnight Handicap that has drawn a field of nine runners, including 125 pound highweight Mr. Collaborator. Mr. Collaborater ships in from Hastings Park where he had a brilliant 2011 campaign that included 5 wins and 2 second place finishes in just eight starts. Last year's leading rider Joe Crispin will have the mount for trainer Malcolm Beverlge. Olympic Lights will be at 123 pounds and is coming off a good summer at Emerald Downs for trainer Charles Essex. Olympic Lights has never won at Portland Meadows in five career starts here. Last year's Inaugural Handicap winner Carry On John is back in the Opening Day feature as he is looking to avenge a fourth place finish last out at Emerald against Chaching Pete who will be running in the Overnight Handicap as well.
