My Mounts - Sun Sept 2 - Mark Anderson
My Mounts is a daily feature where Track Announcer Jason Beem talks with a jockey to get their thoughts on the horses they will be riding for a particular live race day. For Sunday we’ve been joined by jockey Mark Anderson. Mark has been coming to Portland Meadows for the last four years and has been a regular in the top five of the standings ever since. He’s an avid hard rock fan and Alice in Chains worshipper, and loves the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Race 3 Buckle
“I rode him at Emerald off a year layoff, and he showed some speed that day and faded, but he needed that out. He’s ran really well here, she’s (trainer Linda Bartels Northam) got him going a mile this time, so he should be cruising on the lead going a route. I’ve had good success riding for Linda, so we’ve done well together before.”
Race 5 Cu At Sunup
“I just galloped this horse the other day, she’s a Delineator filly but seemed pretty well mannered. She was very professional for a first timer. I’ll talk to the trainer in the paddock, but it sounds like they’ve done a lot with this horse. They’ve worked her behind horses in the morning so she’s taken dirt in her face, which is important for a first timer to do. It’s an 8 horse field and we’re in the eight hole, so we should get a clean trip, that’s always a good thing for a firster. She’s got good works.”
Race 7 Richard’sdoingtime
“This horse ran a huge race last time, just got caught late by Whoyougotyoureyeon. It was the first time I rode this horse, I worked him last year, but never got a chance to ride him. So I am kind of excited to ride him in a race. We’ll probably do the same thing as last time, just lay right off the lead and try to get the lead at the top of the lane. That other horse was just a bit much late last time, but I really think this horse will run a big one this time.”
