McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Final draws a full field of twelve

A full field of twelve will go six furlongs on Wednesday in the $15,000 McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Final at Portland Meadows. These horses competed in two preliminary legs and had to earn points to secure a spot in the Final which features a $4,000 claiming tag. There were six total divisions run in Legs 1 and 2 and no horse won more than a single race, so the Final is wide open.

Zilver won the Series Final last season has been made the tepid morning line favorite at odds of 4/1. He cruised to a solid win in Leg 1 back on October 16th and was claimed by trainer Mark Jones that day for $2,500. He came back in Leg 2 on November 6th with a solid second place finish behind My Man’s No Lady and was claimed that day for $3,200 by trainer Neil Knapp who will saddle him in the Final. Zilver will break from post 10 on Wednesday.

Bad Boy K drew the rail for Wednesday’s Final and is coming off a huge upset win in Leg 2, where he drew off to win by nearly 8 lengths at odds of 18/1. He set a blistering pace that day and it was his first try over a sloppy race course, so his connections might be praying for rain. It looks like his main pace rivals could be My Man’s No Lady and Wheels of Fire. Wheels of Fire was a winner of his division of Leg 1 and was second behind Bad Boy K in Leg 2. He’s got good early speed so look for him to try and go with Bad Boy K, as he drew right outside him in the number two hole.

Players looking for a closer might take a look at The Bien’s Gift who drew post 9 at odds of 8/1. The Bien’s Gift closed from off the pace to win his division of Leg 1 and while he ran sixth in Leg 2, he got bumped hard at the break that day and made up five lengths from the quarter pole to the finish line on the winner.

The $15,000 McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series Final will be run as the 7th race on Wednesday and post time for the race is 2:52pm (Pacific). First post at Portland Meadows is 12:00pm (Pacific).
