J Mancuso Dominates the Portland Meadows Fall Derby Finals

J Mancuso made it four wins in a row as he and Luis Torres cruised to an impressive win in the $15,550 Portland Meadows Fall Derby Finals on Sunday afternoon. Sent off as the 6/5 favorite in the field ten, J Mancuso broke right on cue and headed right to the front. He contested with second choice CM Got Overserved but gradually drew away to win by half a length in the end. CM Got Overserved finished up in second with Sensor running third.

“That was a no problem trip there,” said winning jockey Luis Torres. “He broke straight and really ran well.”

The final time of 19.82 was very fast for the 400 yard distance. So fast in fact, it was only 1/100th of a second behind Victorys Wicked Lad’s track record time of 19.81, set back in 2009.

J Mancuso was trained to the win by leading Quarter Horse trainer Juan Sanguino who continues to dominate the Quarter Horse standings. J Mancuso has now won seven of sixteen career starts and has racked up $32,929 in career earnings for owners Silvestre Sanguino and Jimmy Cancino.
