Eyes on Brimmer takes the Director’s Handicap

Eyes on Brimmer closed right down the center of the Portland Meadows track to get up and win the $8,500 Director’s Handicap on Friday evening at Portland Meadows. Sent off as the 9/5 second choice, had to overcome a fast breaking Hannibal Lector who took command right off the bat. But with 100 yards or so left to go, Eyes on Brimmer and jockey Tim Neal cranked it into overdrive and picked up a solid win, scoring by a half-length going away in the end. The win was the third consecutive score for Eyes on Brimmer who races for owner Malon Cowgill. Benito Curiel was the trainer of the winning runner.

“He broke great this time,” said jockey Tim Neal. “He was just galloping and then about halfway through I gave him a little tap and he just exploded.”

Snip N Dale who was sent off as the slight favorite got up to finish second, just a head ahead of Hannibal Lector who finished up in third. The final time for the 350 yards was 18.47 seconds.
