Devon Dat Cash takes the Portland Meadows Championship Bonus Challenge
Devon Dat Cash and Luis Torres had to work every yard of the 440 yard $13,330 Portland Meadows Championship Bonus Challenge, but in the end the 7 year old veteran put his nose in front at the wire. Sent off as the 9/5 favorite in the full field of ten, Devon Dat Cash got off to a good start today and battled bravely, having to outduel stable-mate Current Sea and Eyez On Brimmer to win by a head. Current Sea finished in second, just a neck in front of Eyez on Brimmer who ran third.
“He got off to a good start today,” said Torres. “He just tries so hard, he was a little bit behind that 4 horse (Current Sea) and he just wouldn’t quit until he got the lead in the last few jumps.”
Devon Dat Cash has now won 11 of his 35 career starts for owners and breeders Donald and Beverly Conway. Trainer Patti Harris saddled both the winner and second place finishers in the race. Devon Dat Cash moved up over $100,000 in career earnings after the win, with $101,886 in his bankroll.
The final time for the 440 yards was 22.47 over the fast track.
