Bad Boy K and My Man's No Lady both score upsets in Leg 2 of McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series

Bad Boy K and My Man’s No Lady weren’t the favorites in their races, but they were certainly the top runners on Wednesday as both put in solid wins in their respective divisions of the Leg 2 of the McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series. Horses were competing in this second leg, with the top twelve point earners getting a spot in the $15,000 Final which comes up on November 27th.

In the first division it was Bad Boy K and Jennifer Whitaker who went right to the front and never looked back, as they scored a big upset at 18/1. Bad Boy K went out and had to battle for the early lead with Wheels of Fire and they dueled through an opening quarter in an eye-popping 21.88 seconds. Bad Boy K started to pull clear of Wheels of Fire at the top of the lane, and drew off to win by seven and one half lengths. Wheels of Fire held on for the second spot while Swiss Lightning finished in third. Declan Downs was fourth and Mr. Top Kat was fifth, each picking up crucial points to be eligible for the Final.

Four horses were claimed out of the first division. The runner-up Wheels of Fire was claimed and goes to trainer Ron Haasl. Third place finisher Swiss Lightning was claimed in a two way shake and goes to the barn of Bruno Maelfeyt. Linda Bartels Northam claimed a pair of runners out of the first division, getting Fighting City Hall and Escaping the Storm. All claims were for $3,200.

The second division saw My Man’s No Lady grab the lead early and hold off favored Zilver late to win by a length and three quarters. My Man’s No Lady was making his first start for trainer Mary Boyle who claimed him out of Leg 1 for $2,500. He finished fifth that day, but his big performance on Wednesday not only netted him the winner’s share of the $6,200 purse, but nobody claimed him this time out, so Boyle will have him for the $15,000 Final on November 27th.

Zilver finished up in second while Ezinmotion grabbed the third spot. Bosco’s Qwik got up for fourth with Defend Liberty running fifth.

Zilver was claimed in a 13 way shake and goes to the barn of trainer Neil Knapp. Trainer Jerry Lynn claimed Defend Liberty, getting that horse in a 3 way shake.
