A new logo and branding, a fresh coat of paint on the building, many new amenities, and of course, a new racing schedule all add up to make Portland Meadows the place to be in Portland this summer.
Long considered a winter time race track, Portland Meadows kicks off our inaugural summer race meet on Sunday July 15, 2012 with a nine race card beginning at 1:00 p.m. (Pacific). Festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. with The Kung Pao Chickens christening the new Beer-B-Q Tent and will continue throughout the day.
Opening Day Festivities:
9:00 a.m. – Doors Open.
11:00 a.m. – All areas open to the public.
11:00 a.m. – VIP event begins.
12:00 p.m. – Ribbon cutting ceremony with local elected officials, members of the Portland Meadows management team and its parent company The Stronach Group, representatives of the horsemen’s groups, and the Oregon Racing Commission.
12:30 p.m. – National anthem.
12:30 p.m. – Turf Club buffet begins
12:50 p.m. – First call to post.
1:00 p.m. – Post time for first race.
Racing continues until approximately 5:00 p.m.

Opening day will also feature the launch of many new amenities at Portland Meadows which include the following:
New Amenities at Portland Meadows for 2012:
Beer-B-Q Tent: Part Beer Garden and part B-B-Q, this new outdoor 10,000 square foot area near the 1/8th pole on the apron provides race fans with a great view of the stretch action. Seating will be available inside the 100’ x 40’ covered tent and in the immediate area. Open during live racing.
Winner’s Circle Patio: An extension of the Paddock Bar located inside the grandstand, the Winner’s Circle Patio has seating for 150 and provides guests preferring to be seated outdoors with the finish line action and full service food and beverage choices. A minimum food and beverage charge applies. Open during live racing.
North End Bar & Grill: New full service food and beverage area serving made to order items. Open daily.
Starting Gate Bar: The best place to catch the races or a sporting event with thirty-two 50’ TVs. Built with reclaimed barn wood, the Starting Gate is where all the fun begins at Portland Meadows with immediate and easy access to the apron for the stretch action. Open daily.
Players Den: Recently renovated, the Players Den features race book and table seating along with Oregon Lottery. Racing and sports are broadcast on thirty-two 50’ TVs along with table top TVs. Open daily.
Horseplay – kid zone: A new area for kids to enjoy a day at the races. Located on the second floor Clubhouse level, Horseplay is open to children on KUPL Country 98.7 Family Fun Days. Activities include face painting with Tina Connelly, Mr. Zee doing ‘Balloons with a Twist,” and a new weekly coloring contest. The coloring contest is free to enter and will be judged by fans on the Portland Meadows Facebook page, with the top vote getters in each age group receiving a $25 Toys R Us Gift Card.
Turf Club: New in 2012, the Turf Club will offer a Prime Rib buffet on Friday nights and a brunch style buffet on Sunday afternoons. The buffet price of $25.00 per person includes table seating. A $10 admission charge applies on other race days and a full food and beverage menu will be available a la carte.
Portland Meadows offers live racing on Wednesday and Friday nights with a 6:00 p.m. post time and Sunday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday will feature all Thoroughbred cards of racing while Friday and Sunday cards will begin with two Quarter Horse races followed by seven Thoroughbred races.
New in 2012, Portland Meadows will offer special themes on given race days and other special events throughout the year.

Portland Meadows features live racing on 60 days a year from July through December with simulcast wagering available 363 days a year (closed on 12/24 and 12/25). General admission and parking are free making Portland Meadows the most affordable entertainment choice in town. Just minutes from downtown Portland, Portland Meadows is located on 101 acres in Delta Park off I-5 exit 306-B. A complimentary shuttle service to and from the Yellow Line Delta Park Max Station is available every day of the live racing season.
