My Fashion Cop & Tad Skaggs edge Royal Time Bunny in the Memorial Stakes
PORTLAND, OR – My Fashion Cop slapped the cuffs on Royal Time Bunny in the final strides to win Sunday’s $7,400 Memorial Stakes for Quarter Horses at Portland Meadows.
With a field of six sophomores competing in the 350 yard test, My Fashion Cop and rider Tad Skaggs raced behind Royal Time Bunny for most of the going.
Nearing the wire, the daughter of Ex Marks The Cop (TB) out of Designers Delight (New Design) gained ground to narrowly edge her rival.
My Fashion Cop returned $9.60, $5.20 and $3.40 for owner Teri Beckner and husband/trainer Bob Beckner.
Royal Time Bunny was second to return $8.60, $4.80 with Dashing Reckless Gal third paying $3.60.
Race favorite, Eyelash, was off the board.
Celebrating her grandfather’s 95th birthday, Teri Beckner reveled in the winner’s circle festivities.
“With four generations here today and it being my grandfather’s birthday, it makes winning even more special,” she said. “This is the first time he’s been able to see this horse run.”
All natives of Riverside, CA, on hand to celebrate were her maternal grandfather, Cecil Jones, who turned 95, her father and horse owner Dan Gober; husband/trainer Bob Beckner, daughter and jockey Twyla Beckner, son and Assistant Starter Ben Beckner, as well as her aunt and uncle Jenna and Michael Inman.
My Fashion Cop notched her fourth career win, giving her a 4-1-4 record from 10 career starts. Her only race in which she finished off the board was a seventh place finish, running only three parts of a length shy of the winner. She has career earnings of $18,443.
