Maria Margarita impressive in victory at Portland Meadows
Maria Margarita sat a perfect trip for much of the way, took command midway on the far turn and pulled away into the lane as she cruised to an easy victory in today’s third race.
Jockey Juan Gutierrez got the 4 year old filly to settle into a good easy stride in 3rd place for much of the race as she sat right behind two dueling leaders. Gutierrez guided Maria Margarita off the fence midway on the turn as she exploded past the early leaders. The race favorite Table for Two made a mild move at Maria Margarita down the stretch, but the race was never really in doubt.
The win pushed her earnings for the season to a grand total of $7,225. Maria Margarita is trained by Ben Root and owned by 95.5 The Game FM and her honorary owners and fans. The honorary owners all gathered in the winners circle with their horse and celebrated the victory.

News and Notes…….Troy Stillwell and Juan Gutierrez both had riding doubles on the Tuesday program……Race 7 saw a dead heat for the win as Secret Meeting and Rio Romeo tied for the top spot……The Pick 4 pool for Tuesday was $10,530 and the payout was $9,041.20 for a $2 ticket. The winning tickets were both played in Ontario via simulcast wagering.
