Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown series comes to a close on Saturday June 6 with the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes. Known as the “Test of Champions” the Belmont Stakes covers one lap around the biggest track in the country, Belmont Park, which is a mile and one half around. Headlining the field is this year’s Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness runner up Mine That Bird. Mine that Bird has drawn post position number 7 for the Belmont and has been given the morning line favorite role at 2/1.
Calvin Borel will be back on board Mine that Bird and will seek to become the first rider ever to sweep the Triple Crown races aboard two different horses as after his Kentucky Derby win aboard Mine That Bird, he scored with Rachael Alexandra in the Preakness Stakes. Borel was quoted after Mine That Bird’s most recent race saying “We’re going to win, no doubt.”
Charitable Man looks to be the newcomer with the best chance to upset Mine That Bird. Charitable Man won the Peter Pan Stakes back at Belmont Park four weeks ago and has been installed as the 3/1 second choice. Dunkirk who finished up the track in the Kentucky Derby has been given the third choice in the morning line at 4/1.
The 141st Belmont Stakes is part of a great betting card at Belmont Park on Saturday June 6. Post time for the first race at Belmont on Saturday is 8:35am and doors at Portland Meadows will be open at 8am. The Belmont Stakes goes off as the 11th race from Belmont Park and post time is approximately 3:27pm west coast time.
