RR Red Rocket springs the upset in the Portland Meadows Championship

RR Red Rocket broke beautifully and never looked back powering to an impressive two and one quarter length win in the $10,950 Portland Meadows Championship on Monday.  Normally a 3/1 horse isn’t considered an upset winner, but when you take into account that it was a four horse field with a 1/5 favorite in the form of Snip N Dale, it was certainly somewhat of a shocker.  RR Red Rocket broke very cleanly from his outside draw while the favored Snip N Dale lugged in badly much of the race.  RR Red Rocket safely held Super Duper Buddy at bay who finished second, with CR Isle Be Baq finishing up third.  Snip N Dale finished fourth and last.

Troy Stillwell rode the winner for owner and trainer Ron Raley.  Final time for the 440 yards 22.07.

News and Notes…….Joe Crispin had a five win day on Monday, all of the wins coming in thoroughbred races….nine different trainers had wins in the nine race card on Monday……Hayden Brothers Ranch bred both winners of the Quarter Horse races on Monday, Ghostriderinthesky and RR Red Rocket.
